Additional Information

The American Soldier is a powerful and emotional one-man show that pays tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of our military veterans. Based on real stories and letters written by veterans and their families, from the Revolution to our recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The show combines exhaustive research and verbatim language from interviews with veterans and letters to bring to life our soldiers' struggles at war and their internal struggles to come back home.

With performances in over 40 cities and 25 states, including notable venues such as The Kennedy Center in 2016, 2019, The Library of Congress, and Off-Broadway, The American Soldier has received critical acclaim, earning a nomination for an Amnesty International Award for theatre excellence and 4 out of 5 stars at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. It has been featured in The Huffington Post, The Military Times, The Washington Post, Washington Times, DC Metro, US Veteran Magazine, and Time Out, to name a few.

In 85 minutes, Douglas Taurel enters into the personas of 14 veterans, both men and women, and their family members, telling their stories of courage and sacrifice. The American Soldier exposes their scars with both darkness and humor. The American Soldier is not a political story but a profoundly human story that strives to honor our veterans and military families for their service to our country.

The American Soldier is a piece of theatre that reminds us of what we all have in common as Americans. It is a journey through the American story with moments that have lasting meaning for audiences old enough to remember and those young enough to yearn for inspiration.
