Light of Hope
We
kick off child abuse prevention month each April with a Light of Hope
ceremony jointly organized with Child
Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB). This event helps people to visualize
the size of the problem and symbolizes giving the light of hope to a
child as hundreds of people light their candles simultaneously representing
the more than 35 thousand neglected or abused children reported each
year in the Houston area. Local children’s music groups perform
at the ceremony as we listen to the inspiring stories of local children.
On the first club meeting of each month, we light a candle before our morning
prayers and share a poignant story of a local child’s fight against abuse
to remind us that Child Abuse Prevention is a year round fight.
