Defenders of Liberty
Doc enlisted the assistance of Richard Early and Leslie Vyoral and together they put a selection/solicitation process in place that would allow for recognition of Sugar Land and Fort Bend County Veterans from all services in a fair share type selection process. Doc worked with a company in Virginia Beach, VA that makes a large variety of ‘faux marble’ plaques, etc, that he had worked with previously during a former Navy command he was assigned to. Through his efforts, he was able to get four different type of plaques to choose from to use as the Defenders of Liberty Award. Through his Defenders of Liberty sub-committee members and members of his Social Committee, a choice was made and subsequent plaques ordered to use with this new program. The plaque of choice, a picture of the Pentagon (representing all services and the tie-in to the 9-11 Attack) with the U.S. Flag and an Eagle superimposed behind, has been a huge success with all who have seen it, and most certainly with those who have received it.
